Piecewise contractions defined by iterated function systems
Let be Lipschitz contractions. Let

contraction defined by is
asymptotically periodic. More precisely, has at least one and at most
periodic orbits and the -limit set is a periodic orbit of

Asymptotically periodic piecewise contractions of the interval
We consider the iterates of a generic injective piecewise contraction of the
interval defined by a finite family of contractions. Let , , be -diffeomorphisms with whose images are
pairwise disjoint. Let and let be a
partition of the interval into subintervals having interior
, where and . Let be the
map given by if , for . Among other
results we prove that for Lebesgue almost every , the
piecewise contraction is asymptotically periodic.Comment: 8 page

Analysis of scientific production on Technological Innovation in Tourism
Until the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism was one of the sectors with the greatest growth
potential on a global scale. It is now highlighted as one of the hardest hit sectors in economic terms and requires strategic recovery capacity coupled with technological innovation. Technology and innovation could provide a strong contribution to the development of tourism by integrating knowledge about tourism products, services and experiences and the new needs and behaviours of consumers. This study analysed the scientific productions on technological innovation in the tourism sector using literature review and bibliometric analysis techniques, with data collected from the main databases of international relevance, Web of Science and Scopus. This study presents the mapping and cluster structures for the trends and dynamics of the investigations on the discovered research themes using the VOSviewer software. The results indicate that research related to innovation and technology in tourism has evolved in recent years, as well as highlighting the main areas of activity and presenting contributions to possible future lines of research.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Security, Performance and Energy Trade-offs of Hardware-assisted Memory Protection Mechanisms
The deployment of large-scale distributed systems, e.g., publish-subscribe
platforms, that operate over sensitive data using the infrastructure of public
cloud providers, is nowadays heavily hindered by the surging lack of trust
toward the cloud operators. Although purely software-based solutions exist to
protect the confidentiality of data and the processing itself, such as
homomorphic encryption schemes, their performance is far from being practical
under real-world workloads.
The performance trade-offs of two novel hardware-assisted memory protection
mechanisms, namely AMD SEV and Intel SGX - currently available on the market to
tackle this problem, are described in this practical experience.
Specifically, we implement and evaluate a publish/subscribe use-case and
evaluate the impact of the memory protection mechanisms and the resulting
performance. This paper reports on the experience gained while building this
system, in particular when having to cope with the technical limitations
imposed by SEV and SGX.
Several trade-offs that provide valuable insights in terms of latency,
throughput, processing time and energy requirements are exhibited by means of
micro- and macro-benchmarks.Comment: European Commission Project: LEGaTO - Low Energy Toolset for

Deep Learning on SAR Imagery: Transfer Learning Versus Randomly Initialized Weights
Deploying deep learning on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data is becoming
more common for mapping purposes. One such case is sea ice, which is highly
dynamic and rapidly changes as a result of the combined effect of wind,
temperature, and ocean currents. Therefore, frequent mapping of sea ice is
necessary to ensure safe marine navigation. However, there is a general
shortage of expert-labeled data to train deep learning algorithms. Fine-tuning
a pre-trained model on SAR imagery is a potential solution. In this paper, we
compare the performance of deep learning models trained from scratch using
randomly initialized weights against pre-trained models that we fine-tune for
this purpose. Our results show that pre-trained models lead to better results,
especially on test samples from the melt season
